RAHANA – In an Open letter to Sadegh Larjani, more than 100 Iranian bloggers and journalists have asked for the release of their captive colleagues. The initiative has been supported by a number of lawyers who defend the rights of journalists. The letter outlines the ongoing police state which started after the June presidential election and asks Ayatollah Larijani, as the country’s highest judicial authority, to take the necessary steps for the release of jailed journalists. RAHANA – On Wednesday, April 7, Mahmoud Beheshti Langaroudi, the spokesman for the Teachers Center, went on an indefinite hunger strike. Beheshti started his hunger strike to protest the deplorable detention conditions of a number of jailed teachers, including Rasoul Baddagi, Mohammad Davari and Hashem Khastar. The Teachers Center was launched in 1998 during the Khatami administration. The center was launched with the permission and aid of the interior ministry. In recent years, like many other civil society organizations, the center has come under attack and had to face closure and a variety of other hurdles and threats.
