Mehdi Karroubi, in a meeting with a group of political prisoner during Shah’s time and before the revolution talked about the day’s events. Karroubi in this meeting said: “previously in a message I warned that in the current situation the meaning of “Moharabeh” (enemy of God) has been changed and demanded from the judi…ciary authorities to address this issue and prevent these changes.” Karroubi added: “Some officials knowingly or not knowingly or even some intentionally announced that people’s protests in the streets is a form of “Moharabeh” (which its sentence is execution) which is very regretful and unfortunate” Karroubi added that the “Mohareb” and death sentence for a 20-year old that was recently issued for only having stone in his hand during a protest to defend himself against the brutality of the security and plain clothes militia, embarrasses everyone and causes even more damage to the credibility of the country in the international community. He added that this ridiculous ruling which was condemned by the international community, senior Grand Ayatollahs and religious figures, human rights groups, major and active political parties and groups as well as student groups and many scholars inside and outside of the country should be stopped and over ruled as soon as possible and the judiciary officials by doing so should ease the tensions and people’s concerns.

Emad Bahavar, political activist and a member of youth fraction of the Freedom Movement of Iran (reformist), was arrested for the second time since the election in June. According to Kaleme website he was in the court to defend himself when he was arrested this morning. He was arrested previously in the days after the election and was in prison for two months. Emad who is a graduate student in political sciences was unable to continue his studies and was informed that he has been banned from school after he was release from prison.

Following the escalation of the number of reformist press that have been shutdown recently and in protest to the restrictions and limitations facing the independent media as well as the shutdown of the two major reformist publications, Etemad newspaper and IranDokht weekly, The Mojahedin of Islamic Iran Organisation (reformist) by issuing a statement strongly condemned these actions against the free and independent media by Ahmadinejad’s administration. In this statement The Mojahedin of Islamic Iran Organisation pointed out that these kinds of behaviours by the government shows how low their tolerance in hearing criticism is and despite their claims not only they don’t support the press but with the slightest excuse they shutdown the independent media and press to silence any voice that is not in total agreement with their agenda and policies.
